At Managed Acres we are committed to providing a professional and reliable service and at the same time minimising our impact on the environment.

Some of the way we do this

1.       Recycle as much waste as possible – Fruit tree prunings can be use as a mulch around the base of the tree. Woodchip is use on flower beds to help supress weeds, retain moisture and add organic matter. If we take green waste away it is mulched and use on arable fields.

2.       Whenever possible, we use the latest professional grade electric, battery powered machinery – They are much quieter, you only need to wear hearing protection for using them for long periods of time.  no nasty fumes to breath in, and much better for the environment.

3.       Sometimes we need to use petrol equipment, so we use aspen fuel, alkylate petrol is virtually free from sulphur, benzene and solvents making it less harmful than regular petrol. Aspen also contains significantly less harmful and toxic hydrocarbons which therefore reduces the impact your machinery makes on the environment.

4.       We also use biodegradable hedge cutter lubricant and are machines are cleaned with bio cleaner. Our chainsaws use bio chain oil which is Composed of vegetable oils and 100% biodegradable within 14 days.

If you are interested, here is some more information from Aspen, about their Alkylate petrol

When compared to cars, small engines such as chainsaws and lawnmowers emit a relatively large amount of unburnt fuel. These unburnt parts of regular petrol contain substances harmful to the environment.

Aspen has virtually no pollutants. For example, you can mow for 100 hours with Aspen Alkylate Petrol before reaching the same level of toxic benzene emissions as one hour of mowing with regular petrol!

Impact of environmental pollutants on the Environment

·         Benzene:
Accumulates in all living organisms. (A cause of leukaemia)

·         Aromatics:
Contributes to ground-level ozone. Accumulates in living organisms

·         Olefins:
Are highly reactive and contribute to high levels of ground-level ozone

·         Sulphur:
Contributes to the acidification of rivers and lakes

·         Ozone at ground level:
A very aggressive and poisonous gas. Attacks trees and is seen as the cause of forest dieback. Harmful to crops

Aspen alkylate petrol – a cleaner engine fuel

Comparison of benzene emissions between cars and lawnmowers

1 modern lawnmower (4-stroke) running on normal unleaded 95 octane (RON) petrol emits as much benzene per hour as 3 modern cars running on the same fuel.

36 modern lawnmowers running on Aspen alkylate petrol emit just as much benzene per hour as 1 modern car running on unleaded 95 octane petrol.

Aspen alkylate petrol – for a better environment

Comparison of benzene emissions between cars and chainsaws

1 modern chainsaw running on normal unleaded 95 octane (RON) petrol is equivalent to 57 modern cars running on unleaded 95 octane petrol.

2 modern chainsaws running on Aspen alkylate petrol are equivalent to 1 modern car running on unleaded 95.

Explanation: The term ”modern” is used to mean a 2006 model. The data comes from test of a Husqvarna 346 chainsaw (other saw are avaliable). The car is estimated to emit 0.1g HC/km and to be running at 50 kph.
